Kent, The Garden of England ...

The county of Kent is aptly referred to as the Garden of England. Its countryside has been a major fruit-growing region since its first orchards were planted in Roman times. In early autumn Kentish vines are laden with grapes and some vineyards offer tours and tastings as well as the chance to buy the wine.

The area known as The Heart of Kent is famous for its hop gardens. Used in the brewing of beer the hops are trained up long poles until ready for harvesting in the autumn. The towns of Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells are all well worth a visit as each has a character all of its own.

The Isle of Thanet, on the south-eastern tip of Kent, covers an area of around 30 square miles. Its three principal resorts, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate have been welcoming visitors for generations. Each town has its own distinct character, attractions and charm, which, combined with the Island's main villages, provides visitors with a wide spectrum of entertainment and exploration options.

The cathedral city of Canterbury is a joy to visit all year round, with its architectural splendours, varied visitor attractions and plentiful shops. In addition to the famous Cathedral there are numerous museums to explore, each with its own unique speciality.

Kent's Garden Coast is situated in an area of contrasting scenery. This fascinating region has an incredible amount to offer the discerning visitor. From the Edwardian elegance and cobbled streets of Folkestone harbour to the old medieval streets of Hythe and on to the natural rural splendour of Romney Marsh, there is plenty to see and do.

White Cliffs Country has a legacy of castles, historic monuments and interesting places to visit. Dover Castle is splendidly situated on the cliffs above the sea and a tour of the secret wartime tunnels is not to be missed. The seaside town of Deal is quaint and picturesque and nearby Sandwich has a generous helping of beautifully restored buildings such as the Elizabethan Guildhall which is full of the town's treasures.
