The very popular coastal resort of Minehead nestles beneath the dramatic landscape of Exmoor National Park and is a perfect place to visit, both for the character and fun of the seaside resort itself and the fascinating heritage and countryside on its doorstep.
The town is everything expected from a lively holiday spot. A delightful sandy beach and promenade leads to a picturesque quayside overlooked by the splendid wooded North Hill. Occasional sea cruises are available from the harbourside.
Minehead takes great pride in its prize-winning floral displays and tree-lined avenues, and a walk from the seafront and around the town will be a pleasure for all. Shopaholics are well catered for in the town centre with a host of interesting shops and many bargains to be had.
In and around the town you will find many places of interest and entertainment including a cinema, leisure pool, the West Somerset Railway and Butlin's magnificent Family Entertainment Resort. Just outside the town is the medieval village of Dunster with its unusual early 17th century octagonal Yarn Market where local cloth was once sold. The fairytale-like 13th century stronghold of Dunster castle can be found here.
A short drive inland from Minehead will take you through the magnificent countryside of Exmoor and the Quantock Hills. With many thatched villages, parks, museums and historic buildings such as the National Trust's Cleeve Abbey, there is a photo opportunity around every corner. The area is rich with superb walks and for those a little more adventurous, horse riding is available.
