Dover, famous for its white cliffs and busy port is not so well known as a holiday resort, but here you will find a varied holiday destination.

Much of Dover has been rebuilt since the Second World War to replace wartime damage but also to provide for the increase in traffic to the port. Dover's natural harbour and strategic position has meant that it has always played an important role in the nation's defences. Dover Castle, positioned high on the cliffs above the sea, was built in 1187 by Henry II and was still being used for defence purposes during World War II as the command post for the Dunkirk evacuation.

Today you can explore its soaring ramparts and creepy dungeons. Other attractions include the Dover Museum where you can see displayed the preserved timbers of a Bronze Age Boat discovered in 1992. Dover's smart seafront and Regency crescent give it a sophisticated setting. There's the stylish Wellington Dock area, with Kent's largest factory shopping outlet specialising in designer labels at discounted prices or why not browse around the antique shops.

You'll always find a place to stop for refreshments from cosy tea rooms, lively seafront pubs and bars to restaurants offering worldwide cuisine. Dover has a wide range of accommodation from luxury hotels, guest houses, B & B's to self-catering flats and cottages.
